Dutch Youth Riders dominate on second day of CDIO Lier

On the sun-drenched second day of CDIO Lier, the U25 and Children teams entered the impressive main arena at Azelhof Equestrian Centre for the Nations Cup competition. The Dutch riders proved to be in excellent form. After yesterday’s win in the Young Riders category, they once again proved unbeatable today.

“We’re guests at a fantastic show with an incredible atmosphere,” said Dutch youth team coach Monique Peutz proudly from the sidelines. “You can sense it in everything, the riders are determined to deliver.”

Powerful performances
The day began with the U25 Nations Cup. The Dutch team immediately set the tone with a total score of 212.451%, finishing well ahead of Switzerland (207.304%) and France (198.431%). Remarkably, three out of four Dutch combinations scored well over 70%, a strong statement ahead of the upcoming summer season. “After winning the Young Rider Nations Cup yesterday, today’s U25 victory really is the icing on the cake,” said Monique Peutz.

Children rising to the occasion
In the afternoon, it was time for the Children’s Nations Cup, and once again, the Dutch riders proved unstoppable. With a final team score of 222.600%, they narrowly edged out Sweden (221.050%) and France (219.025%). The tension in the arena was palpable, but the Dutch youth remained composed and delivered another top performance. “Everyone copes differently with the pressure of riding in an orange jacket,” explained Monique Peutz. “It’s exactly in these kinds of competitions that I see where the riders stand, not only technically, but mentally too. And that’s valuable insight for the future.”

More to come
The youth Nations Cups have now concluded, and tomorrow it’s time for the seniors to take the stage. The very first FEI Nations Cup Dressage on Belgian soil will be contested, a historic moment. This afternoon, the Belgian dressage team passed the fit-to-compete inspection and is ready to go. Don’t miss it, and don’t forget to bring your Belgian flag! The competition begins at 2.00PM.
